Melaka Trial 2025 Add Maths Paper 1, Question 5Systems of Equations
Solved on video in English · Form 4, Systems of Equations · 5:13 video
The question
Solve the following simultaneous equations: 3r + 3s − 2t = −5 2r − s + 3t = 5 r + 2s = t
5:13Step 1
Use the third equation t = r + 2s to eliminate t from the first two equations.
Why this step
The third equation already has t on one side, so substituting it removes t from the other two equations at once.
5 more steps, each with the reason for it, in the full solution
Final answer
r = −2, s = 3, t = 4
Where students lose marks
Watch out: expand −2(r + 2s) as −2r − 4s, and don't stop at r and s. Substitute back to find t.
