Kuala Lumpur Trial 2025 Add Maths Paper 2, Question 7Progressions
Solved on video in English · Form 4, Progressions · 5:30 video
The question
In June 2025, Mr. Azman started a nasi lemak business in Taman Jaya. He spent RM50 on the first day, followed by RM55 on the second day, and RM60 on the third day and subsequent days for the cost of ingredients. He found that his daily profit was 25% of the daily expenditure on ingredients. Assuming his daily profit remains the same at 25% each day throughout June without taking any leave, will he achieve a minimum profit of RM1000 by the end of June 2025? Show your calculation.
5:30Step 1
Daily ingredient costs form an arithmetic progression: a = 50, common difference d = 5, over 30 days (June).
Why this step
The cost rises by the same RM5 each day, so it's an AP. June has 30 days, so n = 30, not 29 or 31.
4 more steps, each with the reason for it, in the full solution
Final answer
No: RM918.75 < RM1000
Where students lose marks
Watch out: June has 30 days, so n = 30. Take 25% of the monthly total, then compare with RM1000 and state your conclusion.
