SPM 2022 Add Maths Paper 2, Question 5Circular Measure

Solved on video in English and Bahasa Melayu · Form 5, Circular Measure · 5:32 video

The question

Diagram 2 shows the plan of a rectangular garden ABCD. The side AB = y metre and the side BC = 6x metre.

A pond in the shape of a quadrant of a circle with centre D will be built in the garden. The remaining area, (90x + 27)π metre², will be planted with grass. It is given that P is the midpoint of AD and the length of AB is twice the length of the arc PQ.

Find the value of x and of y.

SPM 2022 Add Maths Paper 2, Question 5: the question as drawn in Eduly's video5:32

Step 1

AD = BC = 6x. P is the midpoint of AD, so the radius of the quadrant DP = AD/2 = 3x.

14 more steps, each with the reason for it, in the full solution

Final answer

x = 6, y = 18π ≈ 56.55 m

Where students lose marks
