SPM 2020 Add Maths Paper 1, Question 17: the question as drawn in Eduly's video3:35

Step 1

Write dy/dx = 8(3 - 4x)⁻² and integrate: y = integral of 8(3 - 4x)⁻² dx.

Why this step

A fraction is awkward to integrate directly. Writing it as 8(3 - 4x)⁻² lets us use the power rule for a bracket.

4 more steps, each with the reason for it, in the full solution

Final answer

y = 2/(3 - 4x) - 10

Where students lose marks

Watch out: when finding c, 2/(-1) is -2, not 2. Then -12 = -2 + c gives c = -10, not -14.
